As a lifelong ceramic artist, I blend artistic form, design, and function in every piece I create. Based in Grants Pass, Oregon, I hold a Liberal Studies degree focused on Fine Arts and Entrepreneurship from OSU. My path as a professional artist in the Rogue Valley includes an apprenticeship under renowned artist John Dodero and my contribution in public demonstrations of pioneer pottery for the Southern Oregon Historical Society. These experiences have significantly shaped my artistic vision and entrepreneurial spirit. This journey has allowed me to turn my passion into a thriving home business, focusing on two signature products: “The World’s Best Foot Scrubber” and “Rad Mugs.”

At Savannah Fyre, I believe in creating functional art that transcends utility. The Foot Scrubber is crafted with meticulous attention to strength and durability, providing an unsurpassed home pedicure experience that is eco-friendly and sustainable. Each scrubber not only promotes self-care but also supports environmental awareness by recycling ceramic clay, reducing the need for harmful pumice mining. Similarly, my Rad Mugs are hand-thrown and embellished with rich textures and inspiring words like “Family” and “Courage,” designed to enhance daily routines and foster mindfulness.

My business is rooted in the belief that art can be a powerful tool for personal growth and empowerment. My products are inspired by my own journey towards holistic health, and I aim to inspire others to embrace their self-care rituals. By participating in local markets and engaging with online communities through platforms like Instagram, Etsy, and YouTube, I strive to build brand awareness while fostering meaningful connections with my audience.

I am particularly proud to share a feature story about Savannah Fyre published by the Oregon SBDC, which highlights my entrepreneurial journey and the values behind my creations. You can read the article here: Oregon SBDC Feature Story

John’s pottery journey began unexpectedly as a senior at Lake Oswego High School in the 1980s. “My dad told me if I kept a 3.0 GPA, I could do what I wanted,” John remembers. With no prior interest in pottery, he picked it as an elective, thinking it would be an easy pass. Instead, he found a lifelong passion.

From that first class, John was hooked. He continued working with clay at the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center on Maui and later as a production potter at Classic Clay Concepts in Tualatin, Oregon. Five years in production pottery sharpened his skills and inspired him to build his first kiln, all while exploring new forms on the side.

Today, after 40 years and a few career changes, John is a full-time potter. He specializes in functional ware—food and drink vessels and a variety of planters, many inspired by his production days but reimagined with a more organic style. “Engineering new forms, like hanging planters, keeps me challenged and excited. Even now, I still get a thrill every time I open the kiln.”

I began working with clay at the age of ten, drawn to the simple satisfaction of shaping something with my hands. What started as curiosity gradually became a lifelong craft. Over the years ceramics gave me not only a creative outlet, but also a way to support my family and build a life around making.

My work eventually expanded into large-scale ceramic production, where I spent many years developing molds, building kilns, and managing high-volume manufacturing. That experience deepened my understanding of the technical side of the material while reinforcing the importance of good design and careful craftsmanship.

Today my focus has returned to the quieter side of the studio. I aim to create the most refined, classic pieces I am capable of, while sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over decades with the next generation. Ceramics is an ancient and enduring craft, and I feel fortunate to still be learning from it and contributing to its continuation.

My journey with clay began as a high school student and continued through college as I earned a BFA from the University of Nebraska in the 90’s.  I’ve recently returned to my muddy roots after some time away and have jumped back in wholeheartedly.  I find that I’m happiest when creating and my first priority in clay is to make work that brings me joy.  I love color, texture and exploring functional forms.  I also enjoy sculptural forms and using texture to express growth, curiosity, and tension.

I have been a potter since 2016, still in search of my niche. My journey began after retiring from a long career in the medical field. I had always wanted to explore pottery but could never seem to find the time. Once retired I took a community education pottery class at RCC joining a welcoming and inspiring community of artists, I was hooked.

My pieces include hand built creations, both slab and coil construction, and wheel thrown decorative and functional pieces. I enjoy experimenting/ playing with glazes and texture to enhance my creations.

CERAMOSAICS

Mosaics made of ceramic tile are my interest. My first mosaic was made from commercial tiles. The result was OK, but cutting and fitting tiny bits of ceramic was incredibly tedious. The color choices in ceramic tiles were very limited. I decided to try a different approach: making lots of small ceramic tiles which I could use whole. Experimenting with tile mosaics has been a lot of fun. I can focus on the arrangement of tiles, rather than the process of shaping them. This has increased my appetite for more different tile shapes and tile colors, but I have enjoyed making them.
