The Clayfolk scholarship committee received many impressive applications for this year’s Ellice T. Johnston Scholarship for the Ceramic Arts. We would like to thank those who submitted applications and wish you all the best in your ceramic endeavors. Upon careful review and consideration, the committee has awarded the 2015 Ellice T. Johnston Scholarship for the Ceramic Arts to:

Thomas Love
From Redding, CA
Thomas will be transferring to San Jose State University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts. The $2,000 Clayfolk scholarship will help make his continued education in ceramic arts possible.
Excerpts from Thomas’ Artist’s Statement
“Literally taking the earth in its rawest form, then manipulating it into something so articulate and aesthetically pleasing is nothing short of metaphysical”.
“The majority of my work is wheel thrown and then altered in some way to bring out its natural beauty and organic forms. I greatly enjoy the process of working with raku and wood fired kilns for their earthiness and unpredictably unique finishes”.
“(I have) obtained my AA-T degree in Studio Arts (at Shasta Community College) with an emphasis in ceramics and will be preparing to transfer into SJSU fall of 2015. If I am to receive the Ellice T. Johnson Scholarship for Ceramic Arts, I will use the funds to continue my pursuits of higher education in ceramic arts as a BFA student at the California State University of San Jose.”
