Grants Pass Museum of Art supporting 40th Annual Clayfolk Show

To promote the 40th Annual Clayfolk Show & Sale on Nov. 20 – 22, the Grants Pass Museum of Art has invited Clayfolk members to exhibit pieces at the museum’s Nov. First Friday event.

The museum is looking for tea pots, olive trays, serving platters, etc. If you would like your dish to be used to serve snacks/tea etc, please bring to the General Meeting Oct. 18.

Your piece will be returned Nov. 20 at the afternoon meeting at the Armory. Please only one piece per artist! Direct any questions to Sally Pursell 541-218-8309, promotions.

Clay Fest in Eugene: Oct. 9 – 11

Clay Fest is one of Oregon’s finest art and craft shows featuring an array of ceramic art and handmade pottery. On display will be ceramics from raku to woodfire, from garden art to ceramic sculpture, from functional dinnerware to decorative art.

Master Class in Ceramics

Master Class in Ceramics with Heidi Preuss Grew NOVEMBER 14 | 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM With 20 years of teaching and international exhibition experience, International Academy of Ceramics member Heidi Preuss Grew will present her first Oregon-based porcelain master class on Saturday, November 14th from 9:30-4:30. The class will include some lecture style presentations and studio demonstration sessions. Students will learn about the history of porcelain, contemporary ceramics, and international artists residencies. In addition, Heidi will build a figure and discuss the creative process, share her favorite tips and tricks, and answer questions from participants. All levels of participants are welcome! Come learn from a master. The class will be split into two three-hour sessions with an hour-long lunch break: 9:30-12:30 12:30-1:30 Lunch will be provided with additional $10 fee 1:30-4:30 $40 (UVAA Members) | $50 (Non-Members) Class is limited to 12 students! RCC Throw-a-thon

A message from Josephine County Empty Bowls chair, Heidi Griffiths:

I want to share what we’ve been doing to generate community interest in Empty Bowls Josephine County. I was granted a generous donation of clay from Georgies in Portland towards the EMPTY BOWL PROJECT and held a THROW A THON at RCC. Continuing Ed. Students and fellow CLAYFOLK members participated in generating 60 bowls and several Silent Auction pieces from the Hand Builders. I know the handbuilders felt great to be a part of the effort without having to be behind the wheel!

A big thank you to: all those that came to the THROW A THON for their time and beautiful work donated; Ellen Johnson, from OPTIONS, lunch was great and we appreciate the tickets to the event; Georgie’s, for the clay and continued support to the Pottery Community; and A HUGE Thank You to Phil Fishwick and RCC through whom the THROW A THON was made possible! Lastly, there are less than 6 weeks left to receive your donations to go towards this year’s event.

Many thanks to all of the potters who attended the recent RCC Throw-a-thon in preparation for the Oct. 12th Josephine County Empty Bowls event.
