In my last semester in college, needing a one unit class to fill my requirements to graduate, wheel throwing fit the time slot. In the first week ,I knew that I had chosen the wrong major.  At least I now had my lifetime hobby. Working with clay and discovering inspiration in my travels and my Clay Folk friends has brought me joy. I love experimenting with neutral glazes mixed with metallics.

I have been involved with pottery since the early 1990’s with an emphasis on wheel thrown pieces.  Currently I am focusing on Sgraffito.  Images from nature are my inspiration and my one of a kind pieces are not only decorative but functional and suitable for the table.

I love texture! I was the kid that drove her mom crazy by touching
everything in the store, at church, my grandmothers’ gardens, etc.
That love of texture and childish exuberance continues today.

All of my slab or coil built plates, platters, bowls, cups, and hand carved
houses, are simple shapes, with translucent glazes, textured with hand
crocheted lace, burlap bags, ferns, cedar and oak leaves. Other textured
projects are laboriously burnished with oxides so that after the second
firing, they look like hand tooled leather. Like fossils, each simple shape
features these beautiful textures immortalized in clay.

I have been a potter for four years, still in search of my niche. My journey began after retiring from a long career in the medical field. I had always wanted to explore pottery but could never seem to find the time. Once retired I took a community education pottery class at RCC joining a welcoming and inspiring community of artists, I was hooked.

My pieces include hand built creations, both slab and coil construction, and wheel thrown decorative and functional pieces. I enjoy experimenting/ playing with glazes and texture to enhance my creations.
