Clayfolk Membership Meeting – March 18, 2012 – MaryLou Schnoes

Meeting called to order by Shirley Huft at 1:40.

Introductions of members present and types of work done.

Library Report by new chair, Irene Stephens. Irene has chosen three DVD to ordered, as well as several books. She checked with the library first to make sure her choices are not already in the system. Members were encouraged to check these items out of the library.

Member at large position open – A notice was sent out via E-news requesting volunteers for this position. This is a board position that requires a vote of the membership. Shirley requested statements about themselves and what they bring to the position from each person to be included in the newsletter with the ballot.

Interested members :
Carol Hayne – 20+-year member.
Cindra Vargas – 1 year member.
Terri Nelson - 5-6 year member.
Polly Beach.

If anyone else is interested in this position, they need to send a statement to the President as soon as possible. Ballots must be mailed back to the president by the first of May 2012. The next board meeting will be on May 8 and the board would like the new member at large to be at that meeting.

Board positions (president, vice-president, secretary, three members at large and treasurer) are available every year. All current Clayfolk members may run for any board position. Any interested member should submit a statement about themselves and what they can bring to the position they are interested in. Ballots for board positions will be out in the September/October newsletter with the new term starting in January 2012. All members are encouraged to vote. A quorum (30% membership vote) is necessary for election of board positions.

Applications and Deadline for show :   Applications for the 2012 show will be in next newsletter – April/May. Deadline for applications is May 31. For members applying to the show with the same number of points, the application received first gets priority on booth pick.

Membership application has been changed this year. Membership renewal date has been changed to January. The membership renewal forms will be in the September/October newsletter. To be eligible for the 3 points awarded for membership renewal dues must be received no later than the end of January.

Announcements

Shirley announced that we have a Clayfolk potter who is facing many financial issues. This person is a working potter whose kiln has been placed in storage, and is in need of assistance. If any member knows of an inexpensive place to rent please contact Tish or Shirley.

The next membership meeting will be at the Bear Hotel on Spaulding in Grants Pass. A map will be in the next newsletter. Program planned: Peter Sedlow, who works in sculpture, will give a tour of his studio.

A member announced that she had a friend who was thinking of opening a place in Talent at the old Southern Oregon Clay Distributors facility. There are plans for space to rent and use of equipment on site, as well as a low-commission gallery on site. She will keep the group posted. Information will go out in E-news and in the newsletter.

Carole Paquin brought a stack of old Ceramics Monthly magazines to share with the group.

The group was reminded to sign into the meeting to get points.

Attendees enjoyed a potluck and pit fire.  Mary Lou Schnoes announced that the pit would be opened the next morning early. If the member would be in Grants Pass she would be happy to take the pieces to the Fire House studio on Tuesday afternoon. If not pieces were not picked up the tomorrow after the pit fire they would be left under the eaves of the outbuilding.
