Last year was the 34th Annual Clayfolk Show. The
show was held at the Medford Armory on November 20th thru 22nd, 2009. Over
60 Artists were there showing their wares. As the show was a few weeks before the
Holidays it was the prefect place to pick out gifts. From large to small,
functional to sculptural, for the home or for the garden - there was something
for everyone at the show. Baskets were provided to help carry your
treasures and a number of holding tables were placed through out the show to hold
pieces too large to carry.
Friday was our opening night, music in the form of a three piece band played and
light refreshments were available. On Sunday there was an hourly drawing
for a $25 certificate to be used towards Clayfolk purchases.
Saturday and Sunday there was a supervised Kids Clay area where participating artists shared their love and knowledge of pottery with kids of all ages. The Kids Clay area was open from 10AM till 7PM on Saturday and from 10AM till 3PM on Sunday. Lots of kids had the opportunity to see if there was a ceramic artist just waiting an opportunity to express themselves!
Saturday and Sunday visitors also had an opportunity to watch artists demonstrate hand building, throwing and sculpting. Many took notes and asked the demonstrator questions. Sunday afternoon culminated with a potters collaboration using some of the demo pieces to make new forms by cutting, re-attaching and adding details. Artists pushed the envelope with this spontaneous show of creativity.
