IT’S VOTING TIME…

Since the Clayfolk membership year starts June 1st, it’s time to elect officers, renew membership, and apply for the Clayfolk show. Please read the brief statements later in this newsletter to introduce you to members who are running for new officer positions.
I want to thank these members for their willingness to serve on the Clayfolk board. I also want to thank everyone for filling out the ballot found on the bottom of the membership renewal form. Our group is continuing to grow and generate enthusiasm for the world of clay. Please call Cheryl 541-552-0100, if you have any ideas you would like our group to consider.


MEMBERS RUNNING FOR THE BOARD

  • President : Cheryl Kempner Incumbent
  • Vice-President : Carol Heisel has been a member for seven years. She has been a Member at Large and show committee chair for both Security and Workshifts.
  • Treasurer : Ray Foster Incumbent
  • Secretary : Jenny Harkins has served in many roles over the years. She has been President, Show chair, Building chair, and Member at Large.
  • Member at Large : Marydee Bombick moved from Maryland in 2005. She has been a hobby potter for many years. She was active in the Kiln Club of Washington plus the Montgomery Potters where she chaired the Spring Sale in 2003.
  • Member at Large : Jim Keith has been active in the Clayfolk Show. He has been committee chair for Group Booth and Sales. He has been the Show Chair for the past two years and is the current chair.
  • Member at Large : Bonnie Morgan Incumbent.

CLAYFOLK SHOW

Ray Foster reports that we are in the Armory for the last weekend of October in 2006, but he is still working on 2007, so exact dates for 2007 are still if-y.

 

GLAZE GROUP

Next meeting is April 18th at 6 PM at Bonnie’s studio. All are welcome. The group is each making one glaze recipe that they chose as a group and each person is leaving out one different key ingredient. Info : Shirley Huft: 476-0593

News from SOPS

A fluting tool with an arched shape on one end and a triangle shape on the other : this tool makes a clean cut as it is pulled through the clay, just throw the part of your pot you are fluting a little thicker. Stop by and try one out.

The PortaRoller is a new portable tabletop slab roller introduced by North Star. Weighing less that 50 pounds, it is easily moved and sets up anywhere with 18 x 48 of clear table space. Slab thickness is fully adjustable from 1/8 to 2 1/2 thick. The cost is $499.95. Give us a call and get 10% off by being in on our next order.

GENERAL MEETING SUNDAY - MAY 21

The May 21st meeting will be at 2:30 PM at 1201 West Jones Creek Road, Grants, OR 97526. The afternoon will offer two firings, both after the meeting.

Bring pottery for the pit and/or raku firings. Bisque the pots low, about Cone 015. Burnished pots will work well for the pit firing. Shirley gave out detailed instructions and recipes at the last meeting.

Bring potluck items; the firings may take a couple of hours. The pit-fired pots will not be removed from the pit until the next day, If you plan to participate in firings, please e-mail pigpenpots@aol.com to confirm, so that the Huft’s will know approximately how many pots will need to be fired. And you might also want to bring a chair, although the Huft’s have seating for about 30.
