Show

Clayfolk started the new year with their annual potluck and gift exchange- Inspired by artist Steven Hill, fellow Clayfolk artist Robert Johnson demonstrated his paint booth in which he had the ability to overlap glazes.

In February, we were fortunate enough to be offered a three day work shop with Steven Hill. Participants were treated with his newest cone six oxidation glazes. They were, also, able to have their wares tested with these new glazes in Southern Oregon University’s kilns.  Another fun part of this event was the fresh pizza the Clayfolk crew was able to cook in the SOU kiln courtyard (they have a wood fired pizza oven there).

In March, once again the Huft’s were generous enough to allow the members the treat of a pit fire!  At the meeting, our President Penelope Dews went over the rules of the Clayfolk show. One of the main concerns was the amount of shifts between various groups during the show.  Open jobs were, also, listed for the members to consider.  After the meeting, everyone was treated to a lovely potluck and, of course, the experience of the pit fire.

It was a very rainy and cold day in May when are meeting was held at the Kempner’s Ashland Hilltop home.  After a brief informational meeting with Penelope, Clayfolk member Teri Nelson did a presentation on the art of selling on Etsy.  There were many questions and information sheets were passed around.

In the warm middle of July we had our next meeting in Jacksonville at the Casaleggio’s  hill side home.  New President Shirley Huft went through the rules and regulations for the upcoming 2011 Clayfolk show.  We were then treated to a slide show presentation by Hannah Brehmer on creating horse hair pottery and the magic application of terra sigilatta and ferric chloride. She, also, had some of her beautiful pottery on display.

Next meeting was the long anticipated booth selection held at the Talent Fire station.  Deborah Mahannah was there to receive our gratitude for serving as show chair for the past three years.

This years annual Clayfolk show was a huge success with more sellers and beautiful pottery than ever before.  Congratulations to all the participants that pulled this together. What a wonderful organization to belong to.

Looking ahead
